Meet the Body Lift Team

The Plastic Surgery & Aesthetics Medical Center at Chongqing West District Hospital is led by four consultants working inside a tertiary general hospital. Tongchun Mao, MD, is responsible for the medical review of this site and holds the operative half of the decision, including the choice between a circumferential and a staged plan. Dr. Shaoliang Wang holds the complex and previously operated cases and the hospital-level care of a clot or a healing problem. Dr. Ke He provides the assessment of what a non-surgical route could and could not change, and Dr. Yongbo Jia assesses the skin that has to heal and hold closures across more than one site.

Tongchun Mao (毛彤春)

Deputy Director & Head of Aesthetic Surgery · Vice Chief Physician, Licensed Aesthetic Attending · Lead Physician of This Site

Body contouring around the trunk · circumferential and staged plans · the weight-stability assessment

Dr. Tongchun Mao is an aesthetic surgeon at Chongqing West District Hospital, where he is Deputy Director and Head of Aesthetic Surgery in its Plastic Surgery & Aesthetics Medical Center and the responsible physician for this site. He personally performs more than 700 operations a year, within hospital standards of assessment, anaesthesia and follow-up.

His assessment begins by mapping the skin rather than by naming an operation. He establishes where the excess actually sits, what the buttock is doing, how much of the complaint is skin rather than fat, and where previous scars have left the blood supply to the skin, because those findings decide whether the operation needs to go around the trunk at all. Where the complaint is confined to the front, he says so and offers the smaller operation, which is the answer more often than patients expect. Where it is circumferential, he sets out the choice between one long operation and two shorter ones in terms of anaesthetic time rather than convenience, and he tells every patient what the closures across the back and the buttock will take from them in weeks.

Clinical focus

  • Mapping where the excess skin sits before any operation is named
  • Circumferential against staged plans, decided on anaesthetic time and clot risk
  • The weight-stability rule, and why it is firmer here than for the front operation
  • How much skin can be removed safely, set by blood supply and closure tension
  • Aftercare of a closure the patient cannot see, and who checks it

The reach is the operation, and the price is the time

A body lift is not a more thorough version of an abdominoplasty. It is a different operation for a complaint that extends past the hip, and what it costs is time: time under anaesthesia, a second closure to look after, and a recovery counted in weeks. A patient who wanted the reach and understood the price judges the result fairly. A patient who chose it because it sounded more complete, for a complaint that was confined to the front, has paid in weeks for territory she did not need treated.

Start by mapping the skin, not by choosing the operation

Arrange an assessment. We will say whether the excess skin sits at the front of the abdomen or continues around the trunk, whether one anaesthetic or two is the honest plan, and what the closure you cannot see will need.
