Arranging an assessment
Outpatient appointments are booked through the hospital on the numbers below; international patients can ask for Michael Yu. Bring a note of where the loose skin bothers you most and when it appeared, whether weight has changed and by roughly how much over what period, whether a further pregnancy is planned, and any record of previous abdominal or back surgery. Each of those changes the plan rather than the conversation around it.
What the consultation should establish
Which segments of the trunk carry the excess: the front only, the flanks, the back, the buttock, or the whole way round. How much of the complaint is skin and how much is fat. Where previous scars are, because they affect the blood supply to the skin that has to survive the closure. And whether the finding can be treated in one anaesthetic or should be divided into two.
The questions worth asking
Which segments does this plan treat, and which does it leave? Is it one operation or two, and what makes the difference? How long is the anaesthetic expected to run, and what is planned for clot prevention? How long must I avoid sitting squarely, and who will check the closure I cannot see? What would make the smaller operation the honest answer for my trunk? A surgeon who answers that last question specifically is assessing you rather than presenting to you.
Before you commit
No decision needs to be made at the first appointment. Take the plan away, read it against the guides on this site, and come back with questions. A discount that expires, or pressure to book before an assessment is complete, is information about the clinic rather than about your skin.
